Displaying Adsense ads on your site can help it generate income, but what can you do to improve your results?

Here are some profit-pulling methods you can try:

1. Choose one topic per page. It is best to write content for your page using just a few targeted keywords and phrases. The search engine will then serve ads that are more relevant to your content, which will result in higher clickthrough rates.

2. Utilize white space around your ad. This can make your ad stand out from the rest of your page so visitors can spot them easily. There are also other choices of colors you can use which can harmonize the color of your ad with your web page colors.

3. Test your ad placement. It is recommended to use the vertical format that runs down the side of the web page to get more positive results. You can also test both horizontal and vertical formats for a certain period of time to see which one will provide you with optimum results.

4. Create content-based pages. Widen the theme of your website by creating pages that focus more on your keyword phrases. This will optimize the pages for the search engines. It will not only draw in traffic but also make them more relevant for the AdWords to be displayed.

Most webmasters realize that Adsense can generate a sizeable source of additional advertising revenue. That’s why most of them use it to target higher paying keywords. They maintain lists that tell them what keywords they are using, and have already used, then document the performance of each using various methods to identify their success or potential.

Having pages with the proper keywords and phrases is one thing, but driving visitors to those pages is another matter and often the factor that is lacking. The objective is to get visitors to your high paying keyword pages. To do this, you need to optimize your site navigation.

Stop for a moment and think about how visitors are using your website. After a visitor has landed on a certain page, they have a tendency to click to another page that appears interesting. They get there because of the other links that appear on the page that they initially landed on.

This is site navigation and it’s all about enabling visitors to move about your site to maximize your Adsense earnings.

A typical website has menu links on each page. The wording on these links is what grabs a visitor’s attention and gets them to click on one of the links that will take them to another page of that website. Links that utilize your keywords and phrases are often good attention-grabbers.

This navigation logic can also be applied for driving traffic to your high paying pages. There are some websites that get a lot of traffic from search engines, but have low earnings. The trick is to try and come up with smartly labeled links to get the visitors off those pages and navigate them to the higher earning ones. This is one great way to turn cheap clicks into big dollars.

Before you begin testing to see if this same style will work for your website, you need to have two things; something to track and compare, and some high earning pages you want to funnel your site traffic to. One option is to select a few of your frequently visited pages to use for testing, enabling faster results to compare.

Next, think of ways to get visitors viewing a particular page to click on the links that will take them to your higher earning pages. Come up with a catchy and unique description for the link.

Think of something that people don’t see everyday. This can trigger their curiosity enough to click the link to see what it is all about.

You can also use graphics to grab your readers’ attention. There’s no limitation to what you can do to make your links noticeable. If you want your site to be successful, you will do everything you can to achieve that goal.

Be creative; as far as most Adsense advertisers are concerned, there are no written and unwritten laws to follow regarding what they write. Just make sure you do not overstep the guidelines of the search engines and go for it!

Remember that it is also about location. Once the perfect attention grabbing description has been achieved, you must identify the perfect spot on your page to position that descriptive link to your high paying page.

Visit other websites to get an idea of how they go about maximizing their site navigation. Remember; “Hot page” or “Most read” list sites are very common and overly used. Get to know the difference between ‘link-farm’ sites and quality, ‘content-based’ sites and utilize some of the methods successful, quality sites use.

Always test your results; use different texts and methods on different pages. Try to mix things around also by putting your links in different places. Put links on top and sometimes on the bottom too. This is how you go about testing so you can see what works and what doesn’t

Let the testing begin! Test and track until you find the site navigation style that works best for your site.
